Kingdom Come: Deliverance II - A Triumph of Historical Immersion
With the upcoming Brushes with Death DLC right around the corner, it might even be released when this review is published, it felt like the perfect time to revisit and review Kingdom Come: Deliverance II. The DLC, which promises new quests and shield customization tied to the mysterious figure of a reclusive artist, adds fresh content to an already rich and sprawling game. It’s a reminder of how much Warhorse Studios continues to invest in this world and its storytelling, and it offers a great excuse for both newcomers and returning players to dive back into Bohemia.
Deliverance II is an impressive evolution of everything that made the first game stand out. The setting, once again, is 15th-century Bohemia which is a land caught between politics, war, and personal strife. You step back into the boots of Henry, but this time, the world around him feels more alive and reactive. Towns are denser, environments are more dynamic, and every choice, from what you say to what you wear, can ripple through your experience. There’s a grounded realism here that few RPGs even attempt, let alone execute well.
Combat has also taken a leap forward. It’s still tactical and timing-based, but it’s smoother and more intuitive without losing its weight and challenge. The writing is sharper, quests more layered, and characters better fleshed out. Even mundane tasks like maintaining your armor or haggling over prices feel meaningful in the game’s system of survival and social standing. Visually, the game is stunning, with a countryside that ranges from peaceful to haunting and a soundtrack that supports both action and reflection beautifully.
Whether you’re new to the series or returning after playing the first game, Kingdom Come: Deliverance II is worth your time. And with Brushes with Death on the way, there’s even more reason to step back into this demanding, rewarding slice of medieval life.
